"Magic is very particular to a world. Other Equestrias in the multiverse we can reach all have their own magic, and sometimes none at all. Some Equestrias the magic is compatible, sometimes it is not. I would assume the same applies to magic coming from some other world in our own reality. Magic from outside of our world could be very dangerous indeed, with the possible creation of energies we simply have no defense against because we've never encountered them before."

Moondancer mused, pulling out a book and quill with her magic, beginning to take a series of notes. "It might be possible to take a normal shield spell and changed the vibrational frequencies it works on to better attenuate the effects of that rock's magic." She paused and looked at the bag she was given. "I wouldn't count on that to nullify any samples we take either. It's entirely possible that our dispelling spells may not work on it at all, or partially work... we should not blindly trust in that."

Going back to the notes she was scrawling. "I'll have to modulate the shield once we're inside the exclusion zone, and try and find the best combination of frequencies to deal with these alien magical auras. At least we could start mounting a proper defense against the magic. I suggest we do some very thorough testing once we're immediately inside, and proceed from there based on our analysis."

Captain Obvious kept his disgruntled look through the mask, watching them prepare for the incoming task. He was certainly annoyed for having to answer some questions here and there, but such was the attitude of the captain. Thus, he spoke, in the order that the questions and suggestions came.

"Remember, past that gate, you are all a team. Work as one, and you will return victorious." He stated, looking towards Quill. "Introductions and little chatter will do well this early, as I see that none of you have met prior."

Then he returned the salute to 'Masquerade'. "Good, somepony that knows what she's facing." He said first, with the slightest smile he could muster in that suit. "Make sure that everypony returns in one piece, Lieutenant. Otherwise, Mirage might need to spend more time with you. If you come back." The Captain stated, giving her an odd look, but didn't spent a second more as he went on to answer 'Kross's questions.

"Yes. S'long as they pass through decontamination and quarantine when you're back." He said, giving his green light to bring as many equipment as they needed. Weapons, books, armor. Anything that could be exposed to offworld magic without harm. Of course, everything that goes out would go first to decontamination, for safety reasons. The fireguard couldn't just allow anypony to walk around with strange magic being emmited from a sharp stick, or a book, for how important these possessions are.

Of course, there could be an exception, if these belongings are proven to be safe to use...

Then came Moondancer and her very technical points. Points that made the Captain nod ever so slightly. "This magic, this energy that y'all are going to be exposed to very soon, is beyond everything we've seen, or even caught a glimpse of. It's very aggressive, so much that, as y'all can see, we had to raise a fortress around it. It kills the flesh, morphs plants into carbon, and synthetizes magical crystals out from the soil and air. And that's what we could see from the safety of the observatory, who knows what else goes on in there. But we know how to halt the spread of this energy, or at least slow it down." He commented, walking towards the airlock, standing besides the stone door, currently open and hinting at even more runes written in the floor and ceiling of the interior.

"Wich is why we need of you. The samples that you bring will help us reach into its weakness, understand how it works. Then we'll be able to fight it back to where it came from." He stated, giving them all another look. "Now, when ready, set hoof into the gate. You'll be sterilized from anything you're carrying before heading in, with one brush of cleansing magic, and perhaps a bit of a heat and cold stroke. After that... Y'all know what to do."

And his horn started to glow, tapping into the 'controls' of the gate, waiting for all the mares to venture into the unknown, the attent gaze of the other personnel in the vicinity following them whenever they went...

Age Old was fairly new to the guard. That being said, he wasn't used to receiving any mail from the captain of the solar guard at any point in the near future, and on a day off at that. He had obtained his instructions to go to the Dark Zone, in what Age could only assume was a test, just the morning he was to be there.

He quickly packed his things and made haste, carrying with him his armor on his flank and his trusted polearm. As well as an empty journal for notes, as instructed. Apparently the Solar Guard wanted someone on the front, and he was what they could convince the Fireguard to allow. That was as good an assumption as any, honestly.

It was actually his speed that got him on the mission, now he thought about it. He shuddered at the th ought that he might be there just so he could run back to safety to ensure one survivor at least.

He didn't get to the Dark Zone for sometime and was beginning to think he might miss the mission as a whole when the military carriage pulled to a stop. He hopped out and trotted to the entrance, showed his documents and was led inside. He walked into a room to find five other figures standing at an airlock entrance. He took a single step forward before standing at attention. He wasn't 100% sure who was in charge but he was low enough ranking that everyone was in charge of him.

The Dark Grey unicorn mare gave that faint cold smile and she sighed softly, "I am Lady Quill," she said in an almost amused tone she then slowly began to dress in what was given to her, she wasnt a fan of clothes, per say, but she was a fan of not being destroyed.
Once she was dressed she let her gaze drift back towards the Captian as he offered them books and other such things, she took one of the books and her eyes flicked through it, absently wondering if she should bring up that she passed through realms and often too.
Her home was not this verse after all, her home was but a dark echo of this world.

She would let the others do as they pleased, she had a book now, she had words and information.
The red flecks in her dark blue eyes flickered slightly.

And then the newcomer arrived and she turned to look at him, Poor dear, oh well, better late than never...right?

He stole a glance around the room. Four mares either putting on or wearing hazmat suits, and a stallion in uniform. He saw the equipment they all had and his heart quickly sank. He didn't know he was supposed to bring these items. He didn't even know where to get them in the first place.

He took another glance at the room and it's contents. After looking closer, he sighed in relief as he realised the gear was provided.

He took another step forward and cleared his throat "ahem...am I in the right spot?"

As the ladies continued to settle up with the (forced) equipment, the Captain's gaze turned to the newcomer, blissfully unaware from Quill's world of origin. Perhaps just as much as how his equivalent there is unaware of him. However, he was quick to analyze Age from awar, noticing a few things on the spot.

"Private Age. You're late, we were expecting you an hour ago." He exclaimed from the other side of the room, gesturing to some lockers at Age's left. "You're under my command now, and I need you to put on protective gear for radiation and... Well. Best pray to the sisters that it is only that. You'll go with them as soon as everypony is ready." He quickly ordered, still standing besides the airlock. Hopefully these orders would put everyone in check, without sounding like a broken vinyl and having to repeat the same thing five times now.

The moment the Captain addressed Age, he straightened into attention. He listened to the Captain speak until he was finished and gave a sound nod "Yes sir."

He looked to the locker and went to it. He opened it to find the gear he was required to wear. He picked up the hazmat with his magic and examined it as he began to put it on. He gulped silently. He wasn't sure how this suit would affect his movement. But if he had to guess, it wasn't in a good way.

He equipped the gear and began a series of movement tests to see how his agility was. It wasn't as bad as he thought, he would manage.

Moondancer huffed as she struggled to find some fluidity of movement in all the heavy get-up. She knew it was necessary, but still had to deal with re-gaining a sense of control of her own body under the layers of protection. After a fashion, she was reminded of feeling like a plague doctor, or some kind of insect-killing pony.

"I agree with the captain, we need to make this as quick as possible, as efficient as possible, no mucking about. I suggest we keep our own magic to a minimum, not even using our normal telekinesis unless we have to. Hooves-on-tools, as it were, instead of trying to float everything about."

Kross would adjust herself stretching into the suit. It fit decently enough, and would be a bit of a challenge to keep up her usual fluidity of movement. She liked a challenge. She would smile wryly. It wouldn’t be too hard to avoid doing magic. She was quite used to using just her hooves, as she was, as it seemed, one of, or the only one withought a horn or the average magics.
Ahe would raise a hand in welcome to the new comer, amused by his lateness, and curious to its cause. A nice group they had now. She’d step towards the airlock. Readying herself to go. Steadying herself, and clearing her head. Best to be on her best game. For all she knew, this would be much more difficult than any challenge faced yet. If not, then she’d be prepared.
"I'd say go to hell but I never want to see you again."

Trully, the suits weren't designed for battle. They would hinder movement a fair bit, but they were still manageable, and it still allowed propper equipment (such as armor and weapons) to be worn above it, so that was a big plus. The rune pack, on the other hoof, would surely become an issue, as wearing it hindered the natural magic of ponies sligthly -Meaning that it took a bit of extra effort to basically do anything, with the upside of providing a very needed protection from the outside world. Much like plague doctors, almost.

Their greatest worry shouldn't be their equipment however. Rather, what lies ahead. As everypony was in line within the airlock, Captain Obvious nodded. "Alright everypony, eyes closed until you hear a loud 'beep'. Then walk off the plaform. And be carefull in there." He stated, before his horn lit up in a bright yellow. Soon, a large, steel door emerged from the ground, effectively encasing the group of four mares and one stallion within the stone and steel box that was the airlock, with an airtight seal.

Then... A bright flash appeared from their sides and below, cleansing the plastic exterior of their suits from any traces of biological materials. Then came the chemical shower, falling from above them. The sharp cold could be felt even through the isolative fabrics, and it all lasted for a solid five seconds. Then, the opposide side of the room opened wide with a loud beeping noise to alert them that the process was complete, to reveal the world. Or, well. The side that the world outside the Zone feared.

A few steel staircase steps led down to a little cobblestone road, one that zig-zagged up the terrain, between some small stone walls, used to divide crops and fields and tall, dead trees that blocked sight of the epicenter of this mess. A faint azure shine seeped between the carbonized branches and dead leaves, giving a background light amongst the trees. The grass around them, the crops, even the sky seemed to have changed to the worse, as it was no longer blue. It had more of a violet tinct to it, perhaps effect of the isolation bubble (wich made it all the darker). The mission started in the morning -But it already felt like if it was nine in the evening, when Celestia's sun slowly dips under the horizon. But it was still high up in the sky, as one could confirm by looking up to the bright yellow dot in the sky, even if most of its light was reflected away from this hallowed place.

The first steps into the cobble road would be... Eerie at best. The air felt different, it could almost be smelled through the airtight suit (wich lacked of a filter to the outside world, and depended on a built-in arcane oxygen recycler). It was drastically colder inside the quarantine zone too, perhaps even at water freezing point, but the suit should protect against that for the time being.

Among the cracks of the chest-high stone walls, however, one could easily spot something... Particuliarly worrying. Emerging from between the rocks that made the walls, small, Cyan crystals sprouted, oozing a worringly gooey fluid of the same coloration, shining with a distinctive magical hint. It was almost like if the crystals were sweating that ooze, slowly growing in all directions as that liquid solidifies. It wasn't natural, one simple glance could tell. And that thing was almost everywhere -Between each crack in the cobblestone road, one could see that fluid seeping downhill, little crystalline structures following the flow. One could only imagine what it was doing to the fertile soil and the crops, all of wich were heavily carbonized, and dead. Nothing was edible, even the most desperate soul would turn away giving a bite to these plants.

But that wasn't their mission. The road ahead led to the crash site, where the previous expedition went... And only one member returned. It was an uphill walk, but a relatively quick one. Afterall, the farmstead wasn't that large. However, there were some strange figures standing in the distance, closeby to the line of trees that blocked sight of the windmill. One could count three of them from the airlock... And one of them was gently shining, from torso and above.

In the Captain's words... Caution is adviced. There was no turning back now, and the only way out, is either in a bag, or through the airtight door that closed behind them. And that one didn't promised opening again in a long time.
